American singer Billie Eilish has voiced strong condemnation against Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz's proposed plan to relocate all Palestinians in Gaza to a designated camp within the devastated city of Rafah. Eilish described the plan as "horrifying" and used her platform to call for increased humanitarian aid for the besieged territory.
Katz's controversial announcement on Monday detailed instructions to the military to advance plans for establishing a "humanitarian city." This facility is initially intended to house approximately 600,000 Palestinians, with the eventual goal of accommodating the entire 2.1 million population of Gaza.
In response, Eilish shared a screenshot of a news report detailing the minister's plan on her Instagram page, accompanying it with the concise and powerful caption, "Horrifying." The multiple Grammy-winning artist also directly addressed the dire need for resources in Gaza, writing, "Gaza needs clean water."
Billie Eilish has been a consistent and vocal advocate regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza since Israel's invasion of the territory. Her activism was notably highlighted at the 2024 Oscars, where she was among several celebrities who wore a red enamel pin. This pin served as a visible symbol of their collective support for a ceasefire in Gaza, aligning with the "Artists4Ceasefire" campaign.
