A new Nigerian film exploring themes of reconciliation, grief, and forgiveness is set for global audiences this summer. “The Lost Days,” the feature directorial debut of Wingonia Ikpi, will begin streaming on Prime Video on July 11, 2025.

A Story of Return and Reckoning

Set in the historic city of Abeokuta, “The Lost Days” follows Chisom, a woman in remission from lymphoma, who returns to the family she once abandoned. Her homecoming is far from simple: old wounds resurface, buried grief comes to light, and her presence challenges long-held ideas about love, duty, and forgiveness.

The narrative promises an unflinching look at intergenerational conflict, offering viewers a layered, emotional journey that is both culturally specific and universally resonant.

An Ensemble Cast and Fresh Faces

Notably, the film marks the screen acting debut of Ifeoma Fafunwa, renowned for her theatre work and socially conscious storytelling. She is joined by established talents including Bimbo Manuel, Baaj Adebule, Cynthia Clarke, and Durotimi Okutagidi.

Their performances are expected to bring depth and nuance to characters grappling with the fallout of estrangement and the fragile hope of redemption.

Behind the Scenes: Creative Vision and Production Team

The screenplay for “The Lost Days” was written by Abdul TJ and Paul S. Rowlston. It is produced by Steve Gukas, Dotun Olakunri, Chioma Ezeani, and Bola Atta—names familiar to Nigerian cinema for championing meaningful, high-quality storytelling.

Director Wingonia Ikpi describes the film as deeply personal, saying:

“’The Lost Days’ is a timeless love story that chose me. To be entrusted with emotions this raw is the kind of artistic awakening that defines a filmmaker’s journey.”

Her approach promises a sensitive, authentic exploration of the film’s themes.

Part of the First Features Project

“The Lost Days” is the ninth instalment in the First Features Project, a joint initiative by Native Filmworks and Michelangelo Productions. This programme is dedicated to supporting emerging Nigerian directors through mentorship, training, and production resources, with a mission to foster original stories rooted in local realities yet accessible to global audiences.

Previous entries in the project have been praised for elevating new voices in Nigerian cinema, and anticipation is high for what Ikpi’s debut will add to the growing canon.

A Glimpse Ahead

A newly released trailer offers viewers an early look at the film’s emotional depth and striking visual storytelling. Available on the First Features Project’s social media channels, including YouTube, the preview underscores the drama’s core themes of estrangement, forgiveness, and the fragile hope of second chances.

As the July premiere approaches, “The Lost Days” positions itself as a significant entry in Nigeria’s contemporary film landscape—one that promises to resonate with audiences both at home and around the world.
