Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Bose Alao has revealed deeply personal details about the challenges in her marriage, including a startling confession that she once became a “side chick” to her own husband during a period of separation.

In a candid interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, Bose recounted the emotional and financial struggles that marked her marriage, saying she and her husband were separated for three years — a time during which she tried to reconnect with him from the outside, even as he dated other women.

“My husband and I separated for three good years. I became his side chick to my husband,” she said. “When someone asked me if I wasn’t done with my marriage, I said no. When a woman is done, she is done.”

One of the most painful experiences, she recalled, was being insulted by a woman her husband was dating. According to Bose, the woman answered her husband’s phone and called her an “old taker,” a moment that left her deeply wounded, especially considering the sacrifices she had made — including putting her career on hold.

Beyond emotional turmoil, Bose also opened up about how financial pressures led her to take desperate measures.

“You don’t truly know who you are until you get into marriage. Maybe you’re thinking, ‘I am a very calm person,’ but marriage can bring out something else in you,” she said.

“I will send my nude pictures — he has people who collect such. Send my pictures to them, then they will give me a designer bag. I will take it to the person, and my money that night will be N700,000.”

Despite the difficult circumstances, Bose’s story also highlighted a turning point in her professional life, thanks to fellow actress Iyabo Ojo. She shared how a job emceeing a traditional wedding caught Iyabo’s attention and eventually led to a major opportunity.

“Aunty Iyabo saw me on a job. She said she didn’t know I was good. She told me I would anchor the program once Priscilla was set to get married,” Bose recounted. “That job changed a lot of things in my home.”

The actress’s emotional revelations have resonated widely, sparking conversations around the toll marriage can take on women — emotionally, mentally, and even financially — and the silent battles many endure behind closed doors. Bose's story also underscores the resilience and unexpected second chances that can emerge even after deep personal lows.
