Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate, Kola Omotoso, has found himself at the centre of heated social media debates after a playful Truth or Dare kiss with fellow contestant Dede spiralled into an online storm.

What began as lighthearted house banter soon escalated into accusations, with critics alleging that Kola had “crossed lines” in his interactions with Dede. The backlash grew stronger after a private conversation between the two housemates — where Dede urged him to “stop talking about other people” and focus on “more personal things” — was clipped, shared online, and linked to the kiss during the game.

The resulting wave of reactions split fans sharply, with some interpreting Kola’s actions as flirtatious fun while others accused him of questionable intentions.

Amid the uproar, Kola’s official X account released a strongly worded statement on Friday night, defending his conduct and condemning what it described as a smear campaign.

“Kola has recently faced a wave of online backlash, with accusations and name-calling taking over social media spaces,” the statement read. “What began as name-calling: ‘mumu,’ ‘simp,’ has now escalated into dangerous and unfounded labels such as ‘rapist,’ ‘predator,’ ‘abuser,’ coined expressly and impliedly.”

The family insisted that Kola has carried himself with “dignity, respect, and kindness” towards all housemates, especially women, since entering the house.

“From the very beginning, he has shown restraint and self-control, keeping his hands to himself even during the Thursday and Saturday night parties, and never once crossing a boundary set by anyone,” they said.

Describing the allegations as “calculated and malicious,” the family expressed dismay at what they considered a twisting of harmless moments into damaging narratives.
“It is deeply disheartening to see a simple, honest conversation he had with a fellow housemate twisted out of context to paint him as something he is not. This attempt to trap him and strip both parties of their dignity is dead on arrival,” the statement declared.

They also issued a warning to online users pushing defamatory narratives.
“We remind the public that labels such as these carry weight far beyond this show. They can ruin lives, careers, and futures. We will not sit back and allow his name to be tarnished by reckless and defamatory statements… any further defamatory tweets or posts will be met with immediate legal action.”

As hashtags like #TeamKola and #BBNaija continue to trend, fans are watching closely to see how the controversy will affect his standing in the house. One thing is clear: this single kiss has altered the dynamics of Season 10 — and whether Kola survives the heat now depends on both the viewers’ votes and the court of public opinion.
