At a recognition ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presented Nafisa with a cheque of N200,000, praising her victory as a reflection of the brilliance and determination of Nigerian students on the global stage.
The event drew high-profile dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suiwaba Ahmed, the Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Adam, senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, representatives of the Yobe State government, and five other Nigerian category winners from the London competition.
Dr. Alausa described Nafisa’s accomplishment as a national source of pride, stressing that her global recognition underscores the importance of investing in education and creating platforms for young Nigerians to compete internationally. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence through scholarships, mentorship, and improved access to quality learning resources.
“This triumph should inspire other students across Nigeria to pursue excellence with discipline and dedication,” the minister said.
In his remarks, Prof. Abba Adam, Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, hailed Nafisa and her peers as symbols of resilience and excellence, especially for a state rebuilding its education system after years of insurgency.
“Today, we are celebrating victory — the victory of resilience, and the victory of a governor who believes in the power of education as the key to the future of his people and the state,” he said.
He highlighted recent educational milestones in Yobe, including the graduation of 171 state-sponsored medical students from universities in India, now serving in hospitals across the state, and the upgrading of colleges of education, agriculture, and business studies to enhance teaching, research, and training.
Expressing her gratitude, Nafisa Aminu thanked her parents, teachers, and the Nigerian government for their support. She pledged to use her platform to inspire other students to strive for global excellence.
She also unveiled her initiative, “English Language for Peace and Development”, a project designed to promote literacy, dialogue, and social cohesion among young people across Nigeria.
