In a clip shared on Instagram, Lande alleged that an anonymous individual is attempting to extort him to the tune of ₦5 million, threatening to release the fabricated video if he fails to comply.
Visibly distressed, the actor denied any involvement in the alleged act, insisting that the clip is fake. He warned that the spread of such manipulated content poses a danger not just to individuals but to society at large if left unchecked.
“I’m calling on the Nigerian government to act fast on the use of AI to create videos. If not regulated, it will cause a lot of damage in this country,” Lande said.
He explained that the doctored video had already been circulated among his contacts and benefactors, damaging his reputation and raising doubts about his integrity.
“In the video, I was naked and in bed with a married woman. I’m not the one in that video, but the person is threatening me and demanding ₦5 million,” he lamented. “What do you gain from ruining people’s lives? Some of my benefactors don’t even seem to believe it isn’t me.”
Lande further revealed that the woman depicted in the video was allegedly identified as the wife of a senator, amplifying the sensitivity of the blackmail attempt. He pleaded with those who may receive the video to delete it rather than circulate it.
“Please, if you receive the video, delete it immediately. The person in the video isn’t me. I would know if I was intimate with someone. To the person who created that video, I hand you over to God,” he added.
The actor’s emotional appeal comes months after a public scandal rocked his marriage. In March, Lande accused his wife, Darasimi, of infidelity with multiple men in the entertainment industry, including fellow actor Baba Tee. While Baba Tee initially denied the allegations, he later admitted to a brief encounter with Darasimi during a “Truth or Dare” game. Darasimi subsequently apologised, describing her actions as a grave mistake.
Now faced with what he insists is a new wave of digital blackmail, Lande has turned the spotlight on the dangers of AI misuse in Nigeria, urging swift government intervention to protect entertainers and the public from reputational harm.
