Speaking on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old entertainer recounted how she was once dismissed outright by a man who told her he could never consider dating or marrying her simply because she already had two children.
Kaffy used the experience to highlight what she sees as unfair societal biases against single mothers and fathers. She argued that the presence of children from a previous relationship should not automatically disqualify someone from being considered a good partner.
“I have had somebody tell me because I’m a single mother he can’t even think of dating me because I have two children,” Kaffy revealed. “What makes you think that a woman that has been divorced is not even the better candidate if she had worked on herself? What’s the guarantee that two single people today are not going to be divorced people tomorrow?”
Challenging the widespread preference for “fresh starts” in marriage, Kaffy stressed that personal growth and emotional maturity are far more important than whether someone has been married before. She also pointed to the high divorce rate globally, noting that many supposedly ideal unions still fall apart.
Her perspective comes against the backdrop of her own marital journey. Kaffy married music director Joseph Ameh, the former drummer for P-Square, in 2015. The couple parted ways in January 2022, with Kaffy citing a need for individual growth and a lack of alignment in their life goals as reasons for the split. Their union produced two children.
By sharing her story, Kaffy hopes to spark more open conversations about the stigma surrounding single parents in the dating world, and to encourage a shift toward valuing character and compatibility over outdated labels.
