Afolabi-Brown, who recently stepped down as host of the popular talk show Your View after 12 years, revealed in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo that she felt trapped in her role for years and longed for a change.
“I was depressed. At a point, I was suicidal. I walked on the express, hoping a car would hit me. It was that bad,” she confessed.
The broadcaster explained that her battle with mental health intensified as she wrestled with uncertainty about the future. Although she had nurtured the desire to quit and embrace a new phase, she struggled with finding clarity until last year.
“It was when we [TVC] were ten years that I knew it was time to move to the next thing. I had been harbouring that thought for a while but didn’t know how to go about it. But last year, I got that light-bulb moment,” she said.
Her revelation sheds light on the mental toll of career stagnation and the courage required to walk away from a successful platform to pursue new beginnings.
