In a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the NIS disclosed that the revised fees apply only to applications made within Nigeria.
Under the new structure, the 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost N100,000, while the 64-page passport with 10-year validity has been fixed at N200,000.
The service clarified that application fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.
Explaining the rationale, the NIS said the adjustment was designed to sustain the quality, integrity, and security features of the Nigerian passport while keeping it accessible to citizens.
This marks the second upward review in two years. In August 2024, the Federal Government approved an earlier increase, which came into effect on September 1, 2024. At that time, the cost of the 32-page, five-year passport rose from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year passport was raised from N70,000 to N100,000.
The Service had then argued that the adjustment was necessary to improve service delivery and maintain international standards.
With the latest review, applicants in Nigeria will now pay double the rates introduced just a year ago, underscoring the government’s continued push to align passport production and services with global benchmarks.
