This year’s ceremony, themed “Champions for Change: Celebrating Impact,” will hold on November 14, 2025, at the Civic Centre in Lagos. It will bring together leaders, changemakers, and grassroots advocates whose work continues to shape Nigeria’s health outcomes and inspire sustainable solutions for communities.
Speaking on the significance of the awards, Dr. Tinuola Akinbolagbe, MD/CEO of PSHAN, stressed the need to celebrate both well-known leaders and unsung heroes in healthcare:
“Real progress starts with acknowledging those who work tirelessly to make healthcare more inclusive, sustainable, and impactful. This platform is about celebrating resilience, leadership, and innovation—stories that often go unnoticed. We invite everyone to nominate the heroes in their communities who truly deserve recognition.”
Award Categories and Focus
The 2025 edition will feature 25 subcategories spread across five broad categories:
- Public Sector Leadership – Honoring government agencies advancing impactful public health initiatives.
- Media & Digital Communications – Recognizing excellence in health-focused storytelling and digital advocacy.
- Grassroots & Community Organizations – Highlighting NGOs, social enterprises, and local providers driving change at the community level.
- Individuals – Celebrating health advocates, clinicians, researchers, and innovators.
- Private Sector – Rewarding leadership and entrepreneurship in healthcare solutions and partnerships.
Judging will be overseen by an independent panel drawn from academia, public health, media, and private industry, ensuring credibility and merit-based recognition.
Eligibility and Nomination Process
Nominations are open to the public at no cost. Eligible nominees must be Nigerian residents or contributors whose work has had measurable impact in Nigeria. Candidates must be at least 18 years old. While multiple entries across categories are allowed, self-nominations are not accepted. Selection criteria include demonstrated impact, innovation, sustainability, and alignment with health equity goals.
Legacy of Recognition
Since its inception, the PSHAN Gala has recognized some of the most influential voices and initiatives in Nigerian healthcare. Past honorees include the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu (WHO), Dr. Filani Oyebanji (Ekiti State Commissioner for Health), Dr. Stella Okoli (pharmaceutical pioneer), Dr. Chinonso Egemba (grassroots health advocate), and Ifeoluwa Dare-Johnson (health tech innovator).
By spotlighting both established and emerging changemakers, PSHAN aims not only to reward excellence but also to inspire broader collaboration and investment in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
