Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, was convicted earlier this year alongside his mother, Janice Turner. Prosecutors told the court that the pair orchestrated a scheme in which they acquired high-end items—including designer watches, a 232-inch LED television, custom furniture, and even a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade—by exploiting Kingston’s celebrity profile.
The court heard that Kingston and Turner lured victims through social media, persuading them to deliver products on the promise of exposure and future payments. They would often invite vendors to the rapper’s South Florida residences, suggesting their products could be endorsed to other high-profile celebrities. Instead of paying, prosecutors said, the pair sent forged wire transfer receipts as proof of transactions.
A raid on Kingston’s Fort Lauderdale home in 2024 led to his arrest while he was preparing for a performance at a military base in California. Turner was taken into custody at the same location and, in July, received a five-year prison sentence for her role in the case.
Evidence presented at trial included text messages showing Kingston instructing his mother to generate the fraudulent payment confirmations. In one exchange cited by prosecutors, he wrote: “I told you to make [a] fake receipt.”
Speaking before his sentencing, Kingston expressed remorse and told the court he had “learned from his actions.” His lawyer, Zeljka Bozanic, portrayed him as an artist who rose to stardom too quickly and never developed the financial discipline required to manage his affairs, describing him as “a soft guy who grew up poor and still thought like a teenager.”
Although some victims eventually recovered funds after involving law enforcement or pursuing legal action, prosecutors said most were never paid. Kingston is expected to begin serving his sentence immediately.
The 34-year-old remains widely known for a string of hits in the late 2000s and early 2010s, including Fire Burning, Take You There, and Eenie Meenie featuring Justin Bieber. His career, once a symbol of youthful success, now faces an uncertain future as he enters prison to serve his sentence.
