The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued a travel advisory warning passengers and commuters to anticipate congestion and consider alternative routes. The agency said the demonstration, which began earlier in the day, had caused long queues of vehicles around the airport’s major entry points, potentially affecting those rushing to meet flight schedules.
According to FAAN, passengers are strongly encouraged to check real-time traffic updates before setting out for the airport, confirm their flight status with airlines in case of schedule changes, and make use of less congested access roads.
While details of the protesters’ demands were not immediately disclosed, the demonstration by members of the Farmcraft Centre for the Blind underscores the growing trend of advocacy groups using strategic urban locations to draw attention to their causes.
FAAN apologised for any inconvenience caused to travellers, expressing appreciation for public patience as traffic control efforts continue. “We urge all passengers to travel safely, remain informed, and factor in additional time for their journey to the airport,” the statement read.
The Murtala Muhammed Airport, Nigeria’s busiest air travel hub, often experiences bottlenecks during disruptions, and Monday’s protest once again highlighted the vulnerability of its access routes to traffic gridlock.
