In a historic and highly anticipated announcement, former world champions Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are set to face each other in an exhibition boxing match next year. The unexpected event, organized by CSI Sports/Fight Sports, will pit two of the most iconic figures in boxing history against each other, though no date, location, or official rules have been disclosed yet. The bout is expected to take place in the spring of 2026.

A Clash of Eras and Styles

The exhibition bout will be a fascinating clash of styles and careers. At 59, Tyson is a former undisputed heavyweight champion known for his ferocious power, with a career record of 50 wins and 44 knockouts. His last fight was a controversial exhibition loss to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in November 2024. The fight with Paul, which was a professional bout with modified rules, was met with criticism due to the significant age gap between the two fighters and led to speculation about its authenticity.

Meanwhile, the 48-year-old Mayweather, who retired professionally in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record, is celebrated for his defensive mastery and ability to win titles across five different weight classes. He has participated in several exhibition bouts since his retirement, most recently against John Gotti III in August 2024.

“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen,” Tyson said in a statement. “However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable, and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.”

Mayweather, known for his self-assured persona, added, “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”

As with most exhibition matches, a formal winner will not be declared, and the result will not affect either fighter's professional record. The event, however, is being hailed as a major spectacle that is expected to break broadcast and streaming records.
