The certification was confirmed in a statement issued Thursday by FIRS Head of Corporate Communications, Adeyemi Opene, who described the development as a strategic expansion of an existing relationship that began with eTranzact’s involvement in VAT automation.
The new system, known as the Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), introduces structured e-invoicing across business-to-business (B2B), business-to-consumer (B2C), and business-to-government (B2G) transactions. The platform is designed to streamline tax processes, enhance compliance, and improve transparency across Nigeria’s complex economic landscape.
“By design, it simplifies tax processes, enhances compliance, and improves transparency in Africa’s largest economy,” Opene said.
According to Mike Adoga, Acting Director of Tax Automation at FIRS, certified providers like eTranzact were selected based on rigorous criteria, including nationwide service capability, strong data security standards, platform neutrality, and scalability. He noted that the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) also provided critical technical input to ensure the system’s cybersecurity and data protection frameworks met national standards.
Tayo Koleoso, Chief of Staff to the FIRS Executive Chairman, further highlighted the role of NITDA in ensuring robust data protection mechanisms.
“NITDA’s role was critical in tightening data protection and cybersecurity on the platform, giving taxpayers confidence that their information is safe and the process is transparent,” Koleoso said.
On the corporate side, Niyi Toluwalope, Managing Director and CEO of eTranzact International Plc, described the certification as validation of the company’s long-term vision to be a trusted enabler of digital transformation in public finance.
“For us, e-invoicing is more than compliance. It is an opportunity to transform the way businesses interact with government—creating transparency, efficiency, and value for every stakeholder,” he said.
Toluwalope also pointed to eTranzact’s history of collaboration with the FIRS. In 2017, the company was instrumental in deploying an API-based system for secure Value Added Tax (VAT) and Withholding Tax (WHT) reporting via the TaxPro Max platform, laying the groundwork for today’s rollout of Tax Administration 3.0.
Beyond taxation, eTranzact has supported a variety of government and institutional solutions. In 2024, it deployed a digital pensioner verification system for the Military Pensions Board, allowing pensioners at home and abroad to authenticate their identities seamlessly.
Licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria for Switching, Processing, and Mobile Money Operations, eTranzact has delivered secure, scalable payment infrastructure across multiple sectors since its inception in 2003.
With this latest certification, eTranzact will play a key role in helping the FIRS implement its goal of nationwide e-invoicing in line with global best practices, while ensuring systems are tailored to Nigeria’s local context.
