The plant is equipped with a fully automated batching system capable of seamless remote data transfer and real-time modification. According to the company, this system allows the facility to be managed and operated from any location globally through secure internet access, underscoring its advanced digital integration.
In keeping with Lafarge Africa’s sustainability agenda, the Freedom Plant incorporates energy-efficient processes and low-emission technology. It is also designed to integrate eco-friendly products into its production lines, reinforcing the firm’s pledge to “Building Progress for People and the Planet.”
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa, Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, described the project as more than just a production facility.
“The launch of the Freedom Plant further increases and strengthens our commitment to ‘Building Progress for People and the Planet’. For us, this facility is not just about production, but about expanding the frontiers of innovation and sustainability in our operations, meeting Nigeria’s growing demand locally, and empowering our people through job creation and skills development,” he said.
Also commenting, Mr. Derek Williamson, Head of Aggregates and ReadyMix at Lafarge Africa, highlighted the strategic importance of the Lekki plant, noting that it reinforces the company’s presence in Nigeria’s most commercially active city.
“This development complements our business extension strategy across the country. Currently, we have footprints in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos,” Williamson stated.
Industry stakeholders say the plant’s launch underscores Lafarge Africa’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure needs, particularly in Lagos, where construction demand continues to expand in line with urban growth.
