As part of the deal, Statsig’s founder and chief executive, Vijaye Raji, will join OpenAI as Chief Technology Officer for Applications. In his new role, he will oversee product engineering for ChatGPT and Codex, OpenAI’s AI-powered coding assistant, while also managing infrastructure and core product lines.
Statsig, which raised $100 million earlier this year, develops tools that enable software teams to test, flag, and optimize new features. Following the acquisition, its employees will transition to OpenAI but continue operating independently from Statsig’s Seattle headquarters.
The deal highlights OpenAI’s accelerated expansion strategy as it strengthens its product ecosystem amid intensifying competition in the AI sector. It comes just months after OpenAI’s $6.5 billion purchase of io Products, the hardware startup founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive, signaling the company’s ambition to integrate both software and hardware into its offerings.
OpenAI’s growth trajectory has been striking. Powered by the success of ChatGPT, the company doubled its revenue in the first seven months of 2025, reaching an annualized run rate of $12 billion. Reuters reported in August that OpenAI is on course to hit $20 billion in revenue by year’s end. The company is also pursuing a tender offer round to provide employee liquidity at a valuation of $500 billion.
Analysts say the Statsig acquisition underscores OpenAI’s strategy of combining its large-scale AI models with specialized tools that can scale adoption across industries. By bringing Raji into its leadership team, OpenAI gains not only Statsig’s platform but also seasoned engineering expertise to drive the next phase of its application development.
