Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa recently opened up about her past marriage, sharing the immense pressure and public scrutiny she faced. In a candid interview with host Chude Jideonwo, Makinwa revealed that the intense public nature of her relationship was a key factor in her decision to walk away.

Makinwa reflected on the public's perception of her resilience, noting that people often assume her challenges were not severe because she emerged from them stronger. She believes this mindset can lead to envy rather than inspiration. "People like to say it must not have been that bad because you didn’t die," Makinwa said. "But if someone comes back 10 minutes stronger, it unsettles others. Instead of learning from it, they see your strength as a threat."

The Decision to Walk Away

Makinwa explained that the public nature of her relationship made it impossible to stay. She confessed that if the marriage had been private, she might have endured it longer. However, she ultimately felt that staying would have been "dangerous" for her well-being. "The way I loved this person would have been dangerous for me. If I stayed, how I felt would have consumed my entire life," she explained.

The television host and entrepreneur, who is now a mother, emphasized that her choice to leave was about self-preservation. She said that choosing herself over a toxic environment was the only way to safeguard her life and future, even though the process was far from easy. Her reflections shed light on the unseen struggles faced by public figures and the complex dynamics of leaving a relationship under the harsh glare of the spotlight.
