In a recent interview, the celebrated Yoruba actress revealed that navigating life as a single mother is far from easy, particularly in a society where support structures for single parents are limited. She explained that many single mothers are left to shoulder the full burden of raising their children, often under intense social scrutiny.
According to her, the role of a single parent goes beyond emotional care and extends into the daily struggles of ensuring children’s needs are met. “From paying school fees to providing daily meals, the responsibilities are enormous,” she noted, stressing that single parents are often judged harshly despite their sacrifices.
Lola Idije, who lost her husband years ago and has since raised her children on her own, described the journey as both demanding and character-shaping. She acknowledged that while society may not always offer the empathy or encouragement single mothers need, they must remain focused on raising their children with discipline and love.
Her message to other women in similar situations was one of encouragement: to ignore negative perceptions and prioritize the wellbeing and future of their children.
The actress, widely respected for her decades-long contribution to Yoruba cinema, continues to inspire many within and outside the film industry—not just through her screen roles, but also through her candid reflections on life, resilience, and motherhood.
