In a recent interview with BET Network, the rapper explained that the name “Odumodu” — which means masquerade — was first used to tease him as a child.
“Odumodu means masquerade. So I tried to scare someone and he called me that name and I was like, ‘no, don’t call me that,’” he said. “You know it’s that name you don’t want to be called.”
What started as a casual joke soon became part of his identity after a moment involving his mother during his school days.
“One day my mom came to visit me in school and they were like, ‘yo, Odumodu’s mom is around,’ and she’s like, ‘who’s that?’ And I’m like, ‘that’s what it is,’ then I started making music,” he recalled.
Before adopting the name that would later define his career, Odumodublvck went by another alias he now dismisses as unoriginal.
“The name I had first was T Flows — whack name. There are probably like a hundred thousand T Flows in the world, but there’s only one Odumodublvck,” he said with a laugh.
Despite initial doubts from friends, the rapper said embracing the name “Odumodublvck” was a bold, deliberate move to stand out.
“When I told my friends that my name’s going to be Odumodu Blvck, they started laughing. I said, ‘yes, that’s the point. That’s the name there,’” he said.
Odumodublvck, known for his energetic blend of rap and Afro-fusion, has become one of Nigeria’s most distinctive voices in contemporary music. His story of turning a childhood nickname into a cultural brand underscores his trademark confidence and creativity — traits that have helped him carve a unique space in the Nigerian rap scene.
