Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has finally spoken out following widespread criticism over a viral video showing her partying shortly after her sister’s burial.
The reality TV star lost her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, in a tragic accident involving a Dangote truck in August. Ruth was laid to rest in September, but weeks later, Phyna appeared in an online video dancing at a club alongside Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
The clip quickly drew mixed reactions on social media, with many accusing Phyna of being insensitive and moving on too quickly from her family tragedy.
While Regina Daniels had previously defended her, saying people should refrain from judging how others choose to grieve, Phyna herself had remained silent—until now.
In a heartfelt post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, the outspoken reality star addressed the controversy, stressing that mourning is a personal journey that varies from person to person.
“Grief has no manual, no fixed face, and no timetable. The fact that I choose to keep living, smiling, or sharing moments does not erase the pain I carry,” Phyna wrote.
“Respect the process, even if you do not understand it. If you cannot extend compassion, then at least extend silence.”
Phyna’s message has since drawn support from fans and public figures who echoed her call for empathy and understanding in how individuals cope with loss.
