Chinese automotive brand Jetour has officially entered the Kenyan market with the launch of four new sport utility vehicles (SUVs) — the T1, T2, Dashing, and X70 — signaling growing collaboration between Kenya and China in the automotive sector.

The unveiling ceremony, held Friday evening in Nairobi, drew senior government officials, business leaders, and industry stakeholders who hailed the development as a sign of renewed investor confidence in Kenya’s vehicle market.

Founded in 2018 as a sub-brand of Chery Automobile, Jetour specializes in SUVs that merge modern design, smart technology, and reliable performance. The brand’s arrival adds new competition to Kenya’s expanding SUV segment, where demand continues to rise among middle-class consumers seeking both comfort and versatility.

Speaking at the event, Erastus Gatebe, Industrialization Secretary at Kenya’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, said Jetour’s market entry reflects the strengthening economic and industrial ties between Kenya and China.

“The introduction of these models signifies the confidence of foreign investors in Kenya’s motor vehicle industry,” Gatebe noted, adding that such investments align with the government’s goal of promoting local assembly and job creation.

Andy Yuan, Assistant President of Jetour International, emphasized that each of the new models combines advanced engineering, intelligent technology, and affordability — qualities tailored to the preferences and driving conditions of Kenyan motorists. Yuan also revealed plans for a local assembly facility, a move aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing capacity, employment, and technical skills development.

On the distribution side, Global Motors Center Limited will serve as Jetour’s official partner in Kenya. Managing Director Farooq Sheikh said the company is investing heavily in after-sales service and spare parts availability, ensuring long-term support for Jetour owners.

“Our focus is on providing a complete ownership experience — from purchase to maintenance — so that customers can enjoy peace of mind with every drive,” Sheikh stated.

Jetour’s debut marks another milestone in the growing presence of Chinese automakers in East Africa, a region that continues to attract foreign automotive brands seeking to tap into its rising consumer base and industrial potential. With plans for local assembly underway, Jetour’s launch could play a pivotal role in accelerating Kenya’s automotive industry growth and enhancing China–Kenya economic cooperation.
