Earlier in the week, Iwobi shared images on social media showing the surroundings of the team’s hotel in Rabat, which several fans and media outlets interpreted as a subtle expression of dissatisfaction with the facilities. The post quickly gained attention, sparking conversations about the welfare and preparation standards of the Nigerian national team before their crucial qualifier.
However, the Fulham midfielder has now clarified his stance, insisting that his post was misinterpreted and that he never intended to complain or pass judgment on the team’s accommodation.
“Are you seeing life? It’s all about perspective, because I snapped at the view I have and people are thinking these guys are ungrateful,” Iwobi said in a follow-up video on social media.
He added that his post was meant to be light-hearted and reflective rather than critical.
“Brother, I never said one thing. I just did one look like this, never said a word. Because, you see, in life, some people don’t even have yards; some of them don’t have beds.”
Iwobi’s clarification comes as the Super Eagles continue their preparations for Thursday’s playoff against Gabon in Rabat. The encounter is seen as crucial to Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the team looking to bounce back from recent mixed results.
His statement appears to have calmed what could have turned into a public controversy, redirecting attention back to football matters as the Super Eagles aim to secure a vital win.
