The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities across Nigeria from October 31 to November 17, 2025.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Board said the decision followed “emerging circumstances” and was intended to give institutions additional time to finalize their admission processes.

JAMB recalled that the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, on July 18, 2025, had initially approved October 31 as the deadline for all public universities to complete their admissions.

According to the Board, the extension was necessitated by two main factors — an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and the recent accreditation of new academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“AVCNU has specially appealed for an extension due to the disruption caused by a number of factors, including a court order directing that the status quo should remain on the 2025/2026 admission list, which was only lifted by the same court on 28th October 2025,” the statement explained.

JAMB further noted that the NUC, in its effort to expand access in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, recently accredited 229 new programmes across 37 universities on October 29, 2025. Admissions into these newly approved programmes, the Board said, are only now being scheduled.

The examination body commended public universities for their diligence and cooperation in meeting the earlier timeline, stressing that the new November 17 deadline is final and must be strictly observed.

JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and inclusive admission process that respects institutional autonomy while advancing national education goals.
