A confident but measured Anthony Joshua is outlining a clear mission heading into his December 19 showdown with Jake Paul at the Kaseya Centre in Miami, a high-profile eight-round event set to stream globally on Netflix. The former two-time unified heavyweight champion enters the bout as a heavy favourite with bookmakers, yet he insists that his focus is fixed not on the odds but on re-establishing himself as a dominant force in the division.

In recent media engagements, Joshua described the aggressive mindset he plans to bring into the ring, emphasizing pressure, physicality, and a veteran’s grasp of boxing fundamentals. While his language was forceful, Joshua framed it as the mentality required at the sport’s highest level—an approach he says will allow him to showcase techniques and ring craft that Paul has not yet encountered.

At the same time, Joshua struck a note of respect, acknowledging the discipline, improvement and stable support system Paul has built across his 13-fight professional career. He described Paul’s mindset as “solid,” stressing that the YouTuber-turned-fighter’s commitment warrants serious preparation.

The December bout marks Joshua’s first appearance since his stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, a setback that left him at 6–4 over his last ten outings but still carrying a 28–4 record with 25 knockouts. Paul arrives with a 12–1 tally and seven knockouts, continuing an unconventional career path that has steadily escalated in profile.

Looking beyond Miami, Joshua is targeting a busy 2025. A February return is already in discussion, and a long-anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury remains on the table for the fall—contingent, he notes, on taking care of business against Paul. Reasserting his ambition, Joshua framed the coming months as an opportunity to remind the boxing world of his stature.

“I’m hungry, devoted and dedicated,” he said, adding that he intends to climb “just as much as people want to see me down.”
