Lagos is once again poised to take centre stage as the Lagos International Theatre Festival (LITF) returns for its 2025 edition — a week-long celebration of creativity, culture, and global connection set to run from 10–16 November 2025.

In a statement on Tuesday, organisers described the festival as Africa’s premier international theatre event, promising to transform Lagos into a global stage for world-class performances, artistic dialogue, and cross-cultural exchange.

This year’s edition will feature 20 productions across five venues, with performances from theatre companies representing Nigeria, South Africa, and the United States. Beyond the stage, the festival will offer masterclasses, networking events, and cultural showcases, reinforcing its role as one of Africa’s leading platforms for artistic collaboration.

“Audiences can expect a city alive with art — from pop-up performances and live music to creative markets and food stalls,” organisers noted, describing LITF as one of the most anticipated highlights of Africa’s cultural calendar.

The festivities kick off on Monday, 10 November, with Theatre Meets Food at Kaly Restaurant — a curated evening of dining, cocktails, and live performances. Other highlights include LITF x U.S. Embassy Night on Wednesday, 12 November, and Conversations & Culture at Terra Kulture on Thursday, 13 November, featuring masterclasses led by theatre luminaries such as Aubrey Sekhabi, Valerie Green, Professors Segun Ojewuyi and Jaemin Park, and Bolanle Austen-Peters, Founder of LITF.

Austen-Peters described the festival as “a platform for creative exchange and cultural diplomacy,” adding:

“Each year, local and international artists come together to collaborate, perform, and tell stories that resonate across borders. LITF embodies the ambition of a new creative era in Africa, anchoring Lagos as a global cultural hub.”

The Opening Night Gala will take place on Friday, 14 November, at the MUSON Centre, featuring performances by BAP Productions, award presentations, and appearances by top figures in the arts. The festival will conclude with two full days of theatre on 15–16 November, featuring family-friendly shows, creative workshops, and a grand finale celebration.

Festival Director Vanessa Jev said the 2025 edition celebrates the “power of storytelling to connect people”, adding that LITF is “where creativity, culture, and community collide — a space where Lagos meets the world.”

The 2025 Lagos International Theatre Festival reaffirms the city’s reputation as Africa’s cultural capital, bringing together artists and audiences from across the world to celebrate the transformative power of performance and storytelling.
