Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited has announced the appointment of Mrs. Elozino Olaniyan as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, with her tenure set to begin on Dec. 1, 2025. The decision marks a milestone for the 26-year-old company, which will be led by a woman for the first time in its history.

In a statement released on Sunday, the company said the leadership change is part of a broader effort to reinforce corporate governance, strengthen executive capacity, and align its operations with Nigeria’s long-term energy objectives. The move follows ongoing governance reforms, including a reconstituted Board of Directors with a stronger presence of Independent Non-Executive Directors to boost oversight and accountability.

Olaniyan brings more than three decades of industry experience spanning upstream operations, corporate strategy, and stakeholder management. Prior to her appointment, she served as General Manager, Safety and Environment, at Renaissance Africa Energy Company Ltd., where she oversaw efficiency-driven reforms and environmental improvements across the organisation.

According to Midwestern, the incoming CEO will lead an enhanced Executive Leadership Team tasked with driving operational excellence, innovation, and talent development. The company also highlighted plans to broaden local content initiatives through partnerships that support national energy priorities.

Olaniyan described her appointment as a privilege at a pivotal phase in the company’s operations. She said her leadership would focus on operational discipline, transparency, and sustainable growth, with an emphasis on delivering long-term value for stakeholders and contributing to Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape.

Board Chairman Emeka Okwuosa said her emergence signals a significant step in the firm’s evolution, noting that Olaniyan embodies a new generation of leaders committed to technical excellence and sustainability. He expressed confidence in her capacity to guide Midwestern into its next chapter under the strengthened governance framework.

Founded in 1999, Midwestern Oil and Gas is an indigenous exploration and production company with assets in both the upstream and midstream sectors, including the Umusadege Field, gas processing infrastructure, and energy partnership initiatives across the Niger Delta. The company maintains a longstanding focus on sustainable resource development, local capacity building, and environmental stewardship.
