MTV Base, Africa’s leading youth and pop culture channel, is celebrating two decades of amplifying African music, creativity, and storytelling across the continent.

Launched as the first pan-African music channel, MTV Base has played a defining role in promoting the continent’s vibrant sounds and emerging talent, connecting artists and audiences through a shared passion for culture and entertainment.

Over the past 20 years, the channel has been instrumental in spotlighting diverse African music genres — from Afrobeats to Amapiano — and in shaping the global perception of African excellence in entertainment. Its influence has helped propel local artists to international recognition while inspiring a new generation of creative voices.

As part of its 20th-anniversary celebration, MTV Base is treating viewers to a nostalgic programming lineup that revisits some of its most popular local productions. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the channel will air double bills of fan-favourite shows such as:

  • Inside Life (Seasons 1–3) – A raw and authentic glimpse into the personal lives of Nigerian stars.
  • Know Your Music – A lively celebration of African musical knowledge and culture.
  • Ghosted – A gripping reality series exploring the twists and turns of modern relationships.

According to Monde Twala, Senior Vice President/General Manager of Paramount Africa and Lead at BET International, the milestone represents more than a broadcast anniversary — it’s a cultural statement.

“MTV Base is more than a music channel — it’s a movement,” Twala said. “For 20 years, we’ve been committed to telling authentic African stories, empowering youth, and celebrating the creativity that defines our continent. This is a moment to reflect, celebrate, and look ahead to the future of African pop culture.”

Through its continued evolution, MTV Base reaffirms its role as a platform for African voices, celebrating the rhythm, resilience, and creativity that drive the continent’s entertainment landscape.
