Celebrating Milestone Ages and Contributions to Nigerian Cinema
The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has announced plans to honour 22 Nollywood stars and industry veterans who have reached milestone ages of 50 and 60 during the 2025 Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulatory Conference.
Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Chief Executive Officer of NFVCB, disclosed the initiative in a statement on Saturday in Lagos, emphasizing that the recognition is part of a broader effort to celebrate the individuals who have shaped Nigeria’s film industry.
Conference Focus: From Volume to Value
The conference, scheduled for November 18–19, carries the theme “From Volume to Value: The Future of Nollywood in the Digital Age.” According to Husseini, the initiative is designed to highlight practitioners whose contributions have significantly influenced Nollywood’s growth, enhanced its global profile, and enriched national culture.
“Honouring those who have invested decades of excellence in the industry is both a responsibility and a privilege,” he said.
Honourees Represent Nollywood’s Best
The 2025 edition will focus on 22 carefully selected practitioners, ensuring that the honours remain personal and meaningful. Among the honourees are renowned actors and filmmakers such as Desmond Elliott, Rita Dominic, Ngozi Ezeonu, Afeez Bello, Adebayo Tijani, Eucharia Anunobi, Kingsley Ogoro, and former Director-General of the Guild of Nigeria, Bond Emeruwa.
Husseini highlighted that the honourees represent a diverse group of Nollywood’s most influential contributors, whose work continues to inspire emerging talents and captivate audiences.
A Tradition of Recognition
The initiative marks the beginning of what NFVCB intends to be an ongoing tradition of institutional recognition. “From next year, the honour roll will expand to include industry veterans turning 70 and above, those whose pioneering efforts created the foundations on which today’s Nollywood stands,” Husseini said.
By combining the celebration of milestone ages with acknowledgement of professional impact, the NFVCB hopes to both honour past achievements and inspire future generations of Nigerian filmmakers.
