The American-owned club announced Clement’s hiring on Tuesday, giving the former Club Brugge, Monaco, and Rangers manager a contract through 2029. His first game in charge will be on Saturday against Birmingham City, another club with American investors, including NFL star Tom Brady.
Norwich has endured a challenging season, losing all eight home matches so far and sitting 23rd out of 24 teams in England’s second-tier Championship. Star striker Josh Sargent has also struggled, losing his spot in the U.S. national team months ahead of the World Cup, which the United States will co-host.
The club, whose majority shareholder is Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, has seen five managerial changes in four years since last playing in the Premier League. Most recently, Liam Manning was dismissed after just five months in charge.
Clement, 51, brings a strong track record in Belgium, having won three consecutive league titles from 2019 to 2021—first with Genk, then two with Club Brugge. His stint at Rangers lasted 16 months, ending in February with his dismissal in Scotland. Norwich will be hoping his experience and tactical acumen can help turn around their struggling campaign.
