“My Talent Reminds Me God Is Real”
Speaking on authenticity and artistic identity, Teni reflected on how creativity reinforces her sense of purpose.
“I don’t mean to sound proud, but my talent reminds me that God is real,” she said. “How can I write a song right now? How do these melodies come to me? It reminds me there is a reason I am the way I am, because there are other girls like me who are different.”
Her comments drew applause from the audience at the event, which explored the power of storytelling, originality and cultural impact in Africa’s creative sector.
Women Supporting Women in the Industry
Teni also used the platform to emphasise the importance of solidarity among female creatives.
“It’s our obligation to show them,” she said, referring to younger women looking up to established artistes. “As artistes, we expect so much from everybody, but we don’t always learn to give to ourselves.”
The discussion highlighted long-standing issues of representation, collaboration and mentorship, with speakers calling for continued efforts to uplift women both on and off the stage.
Self-Love as a Foundation
On the topic of personal growth, Teni shared her approach to self-love and resilience.
“For me, I have really just loved myself,” she said. “Loved myself enough to know that whatever this is, it’s still enough until I can make it better.”
