Nollywood actor Taye Arimoro has responded to his indefinite suspension by the country’s leading film guilds, calling the ruling “inaccurate” and pledging to challenge it in court.

The suspension followed allegations of a physical altercation on the set of Pieces of Love, involving producer Peggy Ovire. According to Arimoro, he was assaulted after attempting to leave the set once his scheduled call time had elapsed. He claimed that Ovire blocked his vehicle, leading to detention and physical confrontation by her team.

Arimoro is seeking N100 million in compensation from Ovire, dismissing her account of events as “grossly misleading.” Ovire, in turn, maintains that Arimoro was the aggressor.

After investigating the incident, the joint panel comprising the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) instructed Arimoro to issue a public apology to Ovire and the director, release a corrective video clarifying the sequence of events, and complete the remaining scenes under supervision.

In a statement on social media, Arimoro rejected the guilds’ findings, saying: “To be honest, the statement given doesn’t capture the facts of the matter in any way, shape, or form! My management and legal team are aware of this, and I will provide a comprehensive response tomorrow. My legal team is also proceeding with the necessary action to address these unfounded claims.”

The dispute has sparked significant discussion within the Nigerian film industry, raising questions about on-set conduct, guild authority, and the processes for resolving conflicts between actors and producers.
