In an emotional outburst shared on social media, Allwell’s brother accused several Nollywood actors of showing “performative love” after her sudden passing, despite allegedly failing to support her while she was alive. According to him, many of the actors now posting tributes and messages of condolence did not stand by the late filmmaker during difficult periods of her life and career.
He questioned the sincerity of the emotional posts circulating online, claiming that some of the actors benefitted from his sister’s generosity but were absent when she needed encouragement, opportunities, or professional support. He further challenged those who referred to themselves as her friends, asking whether they included her in film projects or extended meaningful assistance when she was struggling.
In a strongly worded post, he wrote in part: “Everybody dey post rest in peace. How many of you supported my sister when she was alive? All of una A-list actors wey call una self her friends… when una dey do movies, did you put Allwell?”
The remarks have since sparked mixed reactions across social media, with some users sympathising with the family’s pain and agreeing that public mourning often replaces genuine support, while others urged restraint, noting that grief can be expressed in different ways.
Allwell Ademola, known for her contributions to Nollywood as both an actress and filmmaker, died unexpectedly, sending shockwaves through the industry. Her death prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and fans, many of whom praised her talent, generosity, and passion for storytelling.
As discussions continue online, the episode has reignited broader conversations about solidarity, support, and authenticity within the entertainment industry, particularly how colleagues relate to one another beyond public appearances and social media posts.
