Epic Games’ hit battle royale title Fortnite is back on the Google Play Store in the United States after Google complied with a U.S. District Court injunction, the company announced Thursday.

The move comes as part of a settlement reached between Epic and Google following a years-long antitrust dispute over app store practices. Epic said it is now working with Google to secure court approval for the settlement.

Fortnite was originally removed from Google Play in 2020 after Epic introduced a direct payment system that bypassed Google’s billing infrastructure, triggering legal action over fees and app distribution rules. The dispute became one of the most high-profile conflicts between a major app developer and a tech giant.

Epic noted that the game’s availability outside the U.S. remains uncertain. In a post on X, the company wrote, “Stay tuned for news of Fortnite’s return to Google Play to the rest of the world.”

While the settlement’s terms have not been publicly disclosed, the return of Fortnite marks a major milestone in resolving the prolonged legal battle and could set a precedent for how app stores and developers navigate payment systems and revenue sharing in the future.
