Ndidi was officially named the new Super Eagles captain yesterday following Troost-Ekong’s recent retirement from international football. The former Leicester City midfielder described Troost-Ekong, previously of Watford, as an outspoken and influential leader who set high standards on and off the pitch.
Speaking to Super Eagles media, Ndidi said, “Troost-Ekong stands for the Nigeria team, I admire him a lot and how outspoken he is. Everyone in the Super Eagles squad looks up to him. I’ve learned a lot from him.”
He added, “We also spoke a couple of weeks ago, so I feel like Troost-Ekong is still part of the team and he is going to be missed.”
