Nigeria’s identity registration process is set to become faster and more efficient following the launch of a new digital pre-enrolment platform by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The commission announced that the newly introduced Pre-Enrolment Portal allows applicants to submit their personal details online, upload required documents and book appointments ahead of visiting enrolment centres for biometric capture. The initiative is aimed at reducing long queues, easing congestion at registration centres and improving the overall quality of data captured during National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Friday, NIMC said the platform was developed to enhance convenience, accuracy and security in the registration process, while offering a smoother experience for applicants.

According to the commission, the digital portal enables prospective applicants—both within Nigeria and in the diaspora—to complete a significant portion of their registration online before appearing physically for biometric capture. This, NIMC said, would drastically cut waiting times and improve operational efficiency nationwide.

The Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr Kayode Adegoke, explained that the initiative reflects the commission’s commitment to delivering efficient, secure and citizen-friendly digital identity services. He added that the platform is designed to make NIN registration more accessible and less burdensome for Nigerians.

NIMC also noted that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places strong emphasis on digital transformation, improved public service delivery and inclusive national development.

Speaking on the initiative, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the portal would simplify enrolment by allowing applicants to complete most of the registration process online before visiting enrolment centres.

She highlighted key features of the platform, including online capture and management of NIN biodata, appointment scheduling to minimise delays, and direct data entry by applicants to improve accuracy. Other features include secure handling of personal information, seamless document upload and enhanced efficiency in enrolment operations.

NIMC encouraged all prospective NIN applicants to utilise the Pre-Enrolment Portal, describing it as a faster and more convenient route to registration. The commission added that the initiative reinforces its broader goal of building a reliable, inclusive and secure digital identity ecosystem to support national planning and development.
