In a ceremony that blended celebration with thoughtful reflection on the future of the profession, the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) convened leading industry figures in Lagos for an evening dedicated to leadership, ethics, and brand sustainability. The event stood out not only for its roll call of accomplished professionals but also for the historic transition it represented within the Institute.
Anchored on the theme “Leadership, Trust and Brand Sustainability,” the occasion witnessed the formal investiture of Dr. Bola Joko Bayo-Ajayi as the first female President of NIMN, a development widely described as a defining moment in the Institute’s history. Beyond the symbolism of gender inclusion, the ceremony underscored a renewed commitment to professionalism, ethical conduct, and the evolving demands of modern marketing practice.
A major highlight of the night was the induction of accomplished marketing strategist, Sandra Amachree, as a Fellow of the Institute. Currently serving as Head of Marketing Communications at HEINEKEN Nigeria, Amachree was recognised for her consistent contributions to brand building, digital transformation, and strategic marketing leadership across multiple markets. With over 16 years of experience spanning Africa and Europe, her career reflects a blend of local insight and global exposure, including a stint in the Netherlands as Global Senior Brand Manager for eazle, HEINEKEN’s flagship eB2B digital brand.
In her present role, Amachree leads HEINEKEN Nigeria’s digital marketing acceleration agenda, helping to future-proof some of the country’s most iconic beverage brands. Her induction as a Fellow was widely viewed as an affirmation of her influence on contemporary marketing practice and her alignment with the Institute’s values of excellence and innovation.
Opening the ceremony, NIMN Registrar, Mrs. Thelma Okoh, welcomed guests and inductees, describing the gathering as both a celebration and a learning opportunity for marketers across the country. She noted that those honoured had distinguished themselves through professionalism, competence, and a clear commitment to ethical standards, qualities the Institute seeks to promote within the industry.
The keynote address, delivered by renowned business leader Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, set the intellectual tone for the evening. Speaking on the centrality of trust to brand success, she challenged marketers to look beyond strategy and focus on character. According to her, credibility is inseparable from brand value, warning that once trust is eroded, its impact is inevitably transferred to products and institutions. She emphasised that integrity, consistency, and doing the right thing are not optional virtues but essential pillars for sustainable brands.
Following the formal decoration, Dr. Bayo-Ajayi, in her acceptance speech, expressed gratitude and reflected on the responsibility that accompanies leadership. She described her presidency as a call to service, urging members to see leadership as an opportunity to elevate others and strengthen the profession. Reaffirming NIMN’s commitment to ethics and standards, she stressed that marketing must continue to be guided by integrity and collective progress.
The event also attracted goodwill messages from prominent industry stakeholders. The Director General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Dr. Lekan Fadolapo, and the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, both congratulated the new President and pledged deeper collaboration with NIMN. Similar assurances came from the President of the Experiential Marketers Association of Nigeria (EXMAN), Tolulope Madembem, who reaffirmed support for shared industry goals.
Adding a personal note, the immediate past president of the Institute, Mr. Idorenyen Enang, commended the keynote speaker for her forthright message and praised Dr. Bayo-Ajayi’s leadership capacity, describing her as a woman of substance with a proven record of delivery.
Overall, the ceremony reinforced NIMN’s evolving role as a custodian of professional standards in Nigeria’s marketing ecosystem. The induction of professionals such as Sandra Amachree as Fellows of the Institute reflects a deliberate effort to celebrate impact, inspire excellence, and strengthen the ethical foundation upon which sustainable brands and trusted institutions are built.
