In a grand ceremony that celebrated tradition, leadership, and contemporary influence, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, yesterday bestowed prestigious chieftaincy titles on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and Senator Abdul’aziz Yari. The event, held in the historic town of Oyo, drew dignitaries from across Nigeria and abroad, underscoring the enduring cultural significance of the Oyo Empire.

The traditional installation showcased the blend of Yoruba heritage and modern pageantry. Cultural rites, royal blessings, and vibrant displays highlighted the conferment of the titles, reflecting centuries-old traditions that continue to play a central role in honouring service, leadership, and societal influence.

Senator Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and the current senator representing Zamfara West, received the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland, a recognition of his contributions to governance and public service. Meanwhile, Seyi Tinubu, a prominent entrepreneur and business leader, was conferred with the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland, acknowledging his achievements in business and his growing influence within the Nigerian socio-economic landscape.

The ancient city of Oyo came alive as guests from diverse sectors—including politics, business, and traditional institutions—gathered to witness the historic occasion. Observers noted that the ceremony not only reinforced the relevance of Yoruba cultural institutions but also highlighted their role in bridging the past with contemporary leadership and achievements.
