Veteran Nigerian actor Akin Lewis has opened up about the sudden and unexplained end of his first marriage, describing it as one of the most painful experiences of his life. Speaking on the African A-List Podcast, Lewis revealed that even after many years, he still struggles to understand why the relationship ended.

“I still don’t understand why my first wife left. Even after all these years, it remains a mystery to me,” Lewis said. “The sudden end of that marriage shook me deeply and left questions I never got answers to. It caused me intense pain.”

Reflecting on the experience, Lewis explained that the heartbreak forced him to shift his focus inward, prioritizing personal growth and his career. He credited the setback with making him stronger and more committed to his craft.

Beyond his personal life, the actor also addressed complaints from some film producers regarding the fees of veteran actors. Lewis expressed disappointment at what he perceives as a lack of respect for the decades of dedication and hard work that seasoned actors have contributed to the Nigerian film industry.

“I have spent over five decades building my career. I will not be expected to work for less or feel lucky to be cast in films,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of valuing experience and professionalism in Nollywood.

Lewis’s candid reflections highlight both the personal and professional challenges faced by veteran actors, underscoring the resilience required to navigate a long and successful career in the entertainment industry.
