DStv subscribers can breathe a sigh of relief after Canal+ and Warner Bros Discovery reached a last-minute agreement that preserves 12 popular channels on the platform, including CNN International and Cartoon Network, following warnings last month that they could be removed starting January 1, 2026.

The deal forms part of a new multi-year, multi-territory agreement between the two media giants aimed at strengthening their international partnership. It also includes plans to expand HBO Max into two additional countries.

According to Canal+, the agreement covers multiple territories, including South Africa, the rest of Africa, and European regions where Canal+ operates. The deal renews several Warner Bros Discovery thematic channels and ensures continued distribution of HBO Max across these markets.

The 12 channels confirmed to remain on DStv include Discovery Channel, CNN International, TLC, Discovery Family, Real Time, TNT Africa, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and Travel Channel.

Subscribers had received alerts from December 1, 2025, warning that these channels might be dropped due to a contractual stalemate between Canal+ and Warner Bros Discovery, prompting concerns among millions of viewers across the continent.

MultiChoice, now part of Canal+, serves 14.5 million customers in Africa, with seven million in South Africa and 7.5 million spread across Nigeria and other regions of the continent.

The agreement also extends to European markets, including Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, where channels such as Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and CNN International are also secured. Other Warner Bros channels in Europe, not available in Africa, such as Warner TV, Cinemax, and TVN, are also included in the renewal.

“Canal+ and its longstanding partner, Warner Bros Discovery, are pleased to announce the signing of a new multi-year and multi-territory agreement, marking a major milestone in the development of their collaboration on an international scale,” Canal+ said in a statement.

The deal ends weeks of uncertainty for DStv subscribers and highlights the continued importance of strategic partnerships in the global broadcasting landscape.
