Content Creator Apologises After Defamation Case Dropped; Released from Police Custody
Content creator Eddie Bliss has issued a public apology to Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson and her family after a defamation lawsuit against her was dropped, leading to her release from police custody.
The controversy began when Bliss shared unverified information from an online blog called Cutie Julls, which later proved to be false. The post, which contained damaging claims about Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Henry Okojie, caused significant distress to the family.
In a heartfelt apology, Eddie Bliss admitted she acted irresponsibly by reposting the content without confirming its accuracy.
“I came across a post from a blog online called Cutie Julls, and I picked the post and posted it on my page without verifying the information. Apparently, that particular video caused a lot of harm and hurt to the family of Mr and Mrs Okojie. I am sincerely sorry for whatever damage I must have caused the family,” she stated.
She also expressed gratitude to Mercy Johnson for dropping the case, acknowledging the relief it brought to her own family.
“I also want to say thank you very much, ma, for dropping the charges against me. You don’t know what you have done for my family and me,” she added.
In the caption of her apology video, Bliss wrote, “Thank you so much, ma, I do appreciate your kindness. I am also very sorry for the inconvenience I caused you and your family. God bless you again.”
Eddie Bliss was arrested after Mercy Johnson reported her to the police for spreading false and damaging allegations about her and her husband. Mercy Johnson had previously warned that such misinformation would not be tolerated but chose to withdraw the case out of respect for those who appealed to her.
The actress's decision to drop the charges has now brought the matter to a close, with Bliss publicly acknowledging her mistake and seeking forgiveness.
