Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has further cemented her status as one of Africa’s most influential figures in the film industry as her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, emerges as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025.
The film, distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, has recorded an impressive ₦2.103 billion at the box office within just one month of release, setting a new benchmark for commercial success in Nigerian cinema. It also broke five opening-weekend records, including the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day, with earnings of ₦129.5 million.
Reacting to the milestone, FilmOne Entertainment announced that Behind The Scenes has officially crossed the ₦2 billion mark, making it the first Nollywood film to achieve such a feat. According to the distributor, the movie is now the highest-grossing Nollywood title of all time across Africa, as well as in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The achievement also places Akindele in a historic position, as she becomes the first filmmaker to rank number one at the box office in Africa for three consecutive years. The distributor further described her as West Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker, writer, director, and producer of all time.
With this latest success, Behind The Scenes becomes Akindele’s third film to surpass the ₦1 billion mark, reinforcing her reputation as a consistent box office force. Industry analysts attribute the film’s performance to strategic advanced screenings, an ensemble cast, and a storyline that resonates strongly with audiences.
