The profile code, a ten-character identifier tied to each candidate, is essential for UTME registration and is linked directly to the candidate’s personal information in the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database. JAMB has reminded candidates to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN), a prerequisite for UTME/Direct Entry (DE) registration, and to ensure that all personal details in their NIN are accurate before generating a profile code. Corrections must be made promptly to avoid registration delays.
To generate a profile code, candidates must send an SMS with the format: NIN [your 11-digit NIN] to either 55019 or 66019 using their personal phone number. For example: NIN 12345678901. JAMB stressed that once a profile code is generated, it cannot be changed, and the candidate’s biodata will be automatically retrieved from NIMC records.
Candidates may encounter common issues during this process:
- Error 550/66019: The SMS format is incorrect; ensure the command follows the prescribed format.
- Number Already Registered: The phone number is linked to another profile; candidates should use the correct SIM card or a new number.
- Unable to Verify NIN: Candidates should wait and retry later.
In addition to registration guidance, JAMB has issued warnings to candidates regarding the application of henna (locally referred to as “Laali” or “Lale”). The use of henna on fingers can interfere with biometric verification and may prevent access to the exam hall. The Board further cautioned against attempts to remove henna with chemicals, which can damage fingerprints and complicate verification.
Candidates are urged to safeguard their fingerprints during registration and examination, as successful biometric verification is mandatory for entry into the UTME hall.
To aid preparation, JAMB recommends that candidates download the JAMB CBT Mobile App or the JAMB CBT Software, which provide practice questions, instant notifications, and exam updates. Prospective candidates can also join dedicated JAMB 2026 WhatsApp groups for guidance and tips.
By enabling early profile code generation, JAMB aims to reduce registration bottlenecks, streamline the examination process, and ensure that candidates have sufficient time to prepare for the 2026 UTME.
