In today’s music industry, albums that have a chance at reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 usually do so during their debut week. That’s when fan interest is at its peak and streaming numbers are strongest. Very few projects manage to return to the summit after falling, and it is even rarer for a full-length album to dip from No. 1 and reclaim the top spot months later.
Yet that is precisely what Morgan Wallen has achieved this week.
The country superstar’s most recent album, I’m the Problem, has climbed back to the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200, becoming only the second act in history to accomplish this feat against Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl. Wallen’s return to the top adds a unique chapter to a chart that rarely sees long-term shifts in leadership.
I’m the Problem Reclaims the Crown, Swapping Places With Swift
As I’m the Problem rises to the highest rung on the Billboard 200, it replaces Taylor Swift’s blockbuster album The Life of a Showgirl, which drops to No. 2. Wallen’s album improved by one position, while Swift’s record settles into the runner-up slot.
Wallen Joins Stray Kids in Unseating Swift
Morgan Wallen is only the second artist to knock The Life of a Showgirl off the Billboard 200 throne since Swift released the 12-track album in October. Swift’s album has dominated the chart, spending 12 of its 14 weeks at No. 1.
The first act to dethrone Swift was South Korean boy band Stray Kids, which debuted its Do It EP at No. 1 in early December. That marked the group’s second chart-topping release in the same year, following Karma, which also debuted at No. 1 in early September.
Wallen Widely Outpaces Swift in Weekly Consumption
Although Wallen and Swift occupy the top two positions, Wallen’s album holds a clear lead in consumption. I’m the Problem earned just under 85,200 equivalent units—an increase of nearly 23% from the previous week—according to Luminate. In contrast, The Life of a Showgirl logged 72,400 equivalent units, declining by almost 11% from the prior frame.
Wallen Dominates Multiple Billboard Charts
I’m the Problem is not only No. 1 on the Billboard 200; it also leads the Top Streaming Albums and Top Country Albums charts this week. However, it slips on the Top Album Sales chart, dropping 10 spots to No. 34.
Swift Remains Strong Across the Board
Taylor Swift’s album also appears on four major Billboard charts, maintaining top-tier positions on all of them. The Life of a Showgirl sits at No. 1 on both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts, while holding steady at No. 2 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Streaming Albums.
Wallen and Swift Flood the Billboard 200
Both artists occupy multiple positions on the Billboard 200 this week. All four of Morgan Wallen’s albums rise from where they were last week, while Taylor Swift fills 10 slots—more than twice as many as Wallen. The crowded presence of both artists reflects the enduring popularity of their catalogs and the sustained momentum behind their releases.
