In a celebration of leadership and influence within Africa’s marketing industry, Promasidor Nigeria Limited’s Category Manager, Donatus Ukpai, was named Outstanding Marketing Personality of the Year at the 2025 Pan-African Marketing World Awards. The accolade recognises professionals whose work has had a lasting impact on the continent’s marketing ecosystem.

Ukpai’s recognition underscores his role in shaping resilient, culturally relevant brands within Africa’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. Known for his ability to fuse strategic insight with consumer understanding, he has successfully steered brands to maintain both relevance and competitiveness in Nigeria’s highly dynamic market.

Before transitioning into FMCG, Ukpai began his career in the banking sector, where he honed analytical and performance management skills. Seeking closer engagement with consumers and the opportunity to create brands with lasting resonance, he shifted to marketing—a decision that has defined his reputation as a transformative brand leader. Over the years, he has been instrumental in positioning Nigerian brands as household names, demonstrating a consistent balance of innovation, strategic discipline, and creative problem-solving.

The year 2025 marked a particularly distinguished chapter in Ukpai’s career. Under his leadership, the Cowbell brand was named Dairy Brand of the Year at the Nigerian Marketing Awards, a recognition of its enduring strength in a competitive category. Beyond commercial achievements, Cowbell’s Cowbellpedia 2025 initiative—an educational television quiz programme aimed at promoting academic excellence among secondary school students—secured second place for Best CSR Campaign of the Year. The programme has evolved into one of Nigeria’s most respected brand-driven educational initiatives, highlighting the potential of purpose-led marketing.

This emphasis on brand responsibility is not new. In 2023, the Cowbellpedia edition under Ukpai’s leadership won the Outstanding Brand-Centric CSR Initiative of the Year at the BrandCom Awards, cementing his commitment to integrating social purpose into commercial strategy.

Ukpai’s impact extends beyond Promasidor Nigeria Limited. During his tenure at FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, he oversaw the successful launch of Peak Yoghurt Drink, marking the brand’s debut in the yoghurt segment and expanding consumer choices within the dairy market.

Colleagues describe Ukpai—fondly known as “Don”—as a marketing professional who consistently combines creativity, commercial insight, and consumer-centric thinking. His work spans multiple successful brand launches and relaunches, consistently delivering innovative ideas that achieve tangible business results.

Today, he is regarded as a key figure in shaping Nigeria’s marketing landscape, helping local brands stay competitive and relevant on both national and continental stages. His career, marked by recognitions, innovation, and purpose-driven strategy, continues to influence Africa’s evolving marketing narrative.
