Qatar Airways has once again set a global aviation milestone by becoming the first airline in the world to equip its Boeing 787-8 aircraft with Starlink internet, with three Dreamliners already offering passengers ultra-fast connectivity in the skies. This achievement follows the carrier’s earlier success in rolling out Starlink on its Boeing 777s and marks the first-ever Starlink installation on an Airbus A350, completed in December 2025.

With nearly 120 widebody aircraft now connected, Qatar Airways offers a faster-than-home Wi-Fi experience across six continents, spanning long- and ultra-long-haul routes. This makes the airline not only the largest operator of Starlink-equipped widebodies but also a global pioneer in onboard broadband innovation.

Accelerating the Starlink Revolution

The airline’s Starlink rollout has been unprecedented in both pace and scale. Within just 14 months, Qatar Airways completed Starlink installations on its Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets and expanded the programme to its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. In total, the carrier now operates three Starlink-enabled Dreamliners, bringing its total Starlink-connected widebody fleet to nearly 120 aircraft.

This rapid expansion reinforces Qatar Airways’ position as the global leader in ultra-fast in-flight connectivity. Its fleet represents the world’s first and largest collection of Starlink-equipped Airbus A350s, building on the airline’s long-standing role as the aircraft’s global launch customer.

A Passenger Experience Like No Other

For travellers, the impact has been immediate. Since its October 2024 launch, more than 11 million passengers have experienced free, gate-to-gate* Starlink Wi-Fi onboard Qatar Airways flights. In 2025 alone, Starlink connected over 21 million passengers across global airlines, with nearly half of them flying with Qatar Airways.

Passengers can now enjoy ultra-high-speed connectivity at up to 500 Mbps, enabling uninterrupted streaming, video calls, and real-time productivity that often surpasses home broadband speeds. The service is available across the majority of the airline’s long- and ultra-long-haul network, including destinations in the Americas, Australia**, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Beyond Passenger Connectivity: Operational Enhancements

Starlink is not only transforming passenger experiences—it is also revolutionizing Qatar Airways’ operations. Flight and roster updates can be delivered instantly to crew devices, enhancing operational alignment and response times. Cabin teams can coordinate with ground staff in real time during medical or service-related situations, minimizing delays. Meanwhile, engineers can monitor inflight systems mid-flight and prepare recovery plans in advance, improving turnaround efficiency.

Continuing the Legacy of Innovation

Qatar Airways’ commitment to Starlink underlines its industry leadership. It is the first carrier globally to achieve Starlink certification for the Boeing 787-8 and the first in the MENA region to deploy this cutting-edge technology. Coupled with the airline’s recognition as Skytrax’s World’s Best Airline in 2025—for the ninth time—this rollout cements Qatar Airways’ reputation for offering an unmatched passenger experience and industry-leading innovation.
