Nigeria’s domestic card scheme, AfriGO, has broadened its reach with a new integration that allows users to request the card directly through the PalmPay mobile application. The move marks another step in deepening financial inclusion and strengthening homegrown payment infrastructure across the country.

With the integration, Nigerians can now apply for an AfriGO card seamlessly within the PalmPay app—eliminating traditional bottlenecks and bringing the national card scheme closer to millions who already rely on the platform for transfers, bill payments, airtime purchases, and everyday transactions.

Bridging Digital and Physical Access

The rollout expands AfriGO’s distribution beyond conventional banking channels by leveraging PalmPay’s extensive digital footprint and nationwide agent network. While users can initiate requests within the app, those who prefer face-to-face support can visit PalmPay’s customer experience centres or consult any of its over 500,000 agents spread across the country.

This hybrid approach—combining digital convenience with physical assistance—ensures broader accessibility, particularly for users who may need guidance navigating card issuance or activation processes.

Strengthening Nigeria’s Payment Infrastructure

AfriGO cards are built to function seamlessly within Nigeria’s domestic payment ecosystem. Cardholders can use them at ATMs, Point of Sale (POS) terminals, and online platforms nationwide, reinforcing local transaction processing and enhancing payment reliability.

By embedding AfriGO card requests into an app already used daily by millions, the integration lowers barriers to card ownership and supports the continued shift toward electronic payments.

Leadership Perspectives

Commenting on the development, Ebehijie Momoh, Managing Director of AfriGO, described the integration as aligned with the scheme’s long-term strategy.

He noted that AfriGO is designed around Nigeria’s specific needs and realities, emphasizing that making the card available via PalmPay removes access barriers and enables more citizens to participate fully in the country’s growing digital economy.

Similarly, Chika Nwosu, Managing Director of PalmPay, highlighted persistent challenges many Nigerians face in accessing reliable card services. According to him, enabling AfriGO card requests directly within the PalmPay app enhances accessibility, improves user confidence, and simplifies participation in Nigeria’s evolving payment landscape.

Driving Adoption Through Trusted Platforms

The partnership underscores AfriGO’s commitment to expanding its footprint through widely adopted digital platforms while maintaining strong offline support channels. For PalmPay, the integration strengthens its service offering, positioning the fintech not just as a payment app, but as a broader gateway to formal financial tools.

As Nigeria continues its push toward a more inclusive and locally anchored financial system, the availability of AfriGO cards on PalmPay signals a coordinated effort to make card-based payments more accessible, reliable, and tailored to the domestic market.
