Spanish La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are reportedly considering a summer swoop for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen as the club braces for a potential shake-up in its attacking department.

Los Rojiblancos could part ways with one of their two leading forwards in the coming transfer window. Julián Álvarez has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, while Alexander Sørloth is attracting interest from Fenerbahçe, Juventus and clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Either departure would hand Atlético a significant financial boost, but it would also leave manager Diego Simeone in need of a proven replacement.

Simeone Gives Green Light

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Simeone has already approved a potential move for Osimhen, with the club’s hierarchy now exploring the financial framework required to land the Nigerian international.

Osimhen, who won the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award, remains one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards. Galatasaray are reportedly demanding around €80 million as they look to recover the €75 million paid to Napoli for his services last summer.

A switch to Atlético would offer Osimhen the chance to test himself in La Liga and potentially link up with fellow Nigerian star Ademola Lookman, adding further intrigue to the move.

Financial Hurdles Remain

Despite the sporting appeal, the deal could hinge on financial realities. Osimhen’s wage demands are expected to be substantial, and Atlético would need to carefully manage their salary structure to accommodate the striker.

With uncertainty surrounding Álvarez and Sørloth, the Madrid club face a pivotal transfer window. Should one of their frontline stars depart, Osimhen has emerged as a marquee option to spearhead Simeone’s next attacking rebuild.
