The inspection, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, will take place in Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu, both located in Ogun State. The development was confirmed by the Director of Media and Communications of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire, in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Abuja.
The CAF delegation will evaluate key infrastructure, including competition venues, training facilities and other ancillary support systems in the two locations. The assessment is expected to focus on Remo Stars Stadium and training pitches in Ikenne-Remo, as well as the FC Ebedei Stadium, training facilities, nearby hospitals and hotel accommodation in Sagamu.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship was launched four years ago as an annual Under-15 tournament aimed at promoting youth football development alongside education across the continent. The competition features both boys and girls categories and is backed by a $10 million investment from the Dr Patrice Motsepe Foundation. It is structured around zonal qualifiers that lead to a continental finals event.
The 2024 finals were held in Accra, Ghana, where Tanzania won the boys’ title and host nation Ghana claimed the girls’ championship. Winners of the tournament receive up to $300,000 in support for infrastructure development.
In addition to football development, the competition partners with organisations such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote health education and welfare among young athletes.
The CAF officials expected to participate in the inspection include:
- Omar Amr (Safeguarding)
- Fatima Elmissaoui (African Schools Football Championship Officer)
- Herve Dassoundo (Marketing and Branding)
- Mahmoud Amer (Travel and Logistics)
- Diabate Zakarhiya (Safety and Security)
- Hend Thabet (Travel and Accommodation)
- Joshua Knipp (ASFC Competition)
- Philippe Tchere (Executive Director, WAFU B)
The delegation’s visit marks a critical step in Nigeria’s bid to host the final phase of the 2026 championship, with the inspection outcomes expected to influence CAF’s final decision.
