The family of veteran Nollywood icon Pete Edochie has announced plans to pursue legal action against a TikTok user accused of spreading false rumours about the actor’s death.

The development was disclosed by the actor’s first son, Leo Edochie, who condemned the viral post and described it as both malicious and distressing to the family and the public.

According to Leo, the family has formally contacted the Department of State Services (DSS), requesting that authorities investigate and arrest the individual responsible for the misinformation.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Leo identified the TikTok handle allegedly linked to the rumour and appealed to members of the public for assistance. He also pledged a cash reward for credible information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

“This young man posted a video on TikTok that our father is dead. His handle is @ONE_BOR 001. Anyone with information that will lead to his arrest will be handsomely rewarded in cash. I have contacted DSS and they are on his trail. DM me with the information, as soon as he is arrested, you will get your reward in cash,” he wrote.

The false report had circulated widely on social media, sparking confusion among fans of the respected actor, who remains one of Nigeria’s most celebrated screen legends. The family’s swift response underscores growing concerns over the spread of unverified information on digital platforms.

As authorities reportedly begin investigations, the incident has reignited conversations about accountability, misinformation, and the legal consequences of spreading false news online.
