Enugu Air, the state-owned airline operated by XEJET, has strengthened its fleet with the acquisition of a new Embraer 195 aircraft, underscoring its ongoing drive to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency in domestic air travel.

The addition of the latest jet comes as part of the airline’s broader expansion strategy and marks a key milestone in its development. In a statement, the airline praised Governor Peter Mbah for his support and long-term vision for aviation in the region, noting that his commitment continues to reinforce connectivity and stimulate economic growth.

“This milestone moves the airline another step forward as we continue building an airline customers can always count on,” the statement said.

Enugu Air began operations on July 7, 2025, from Akanu Ibiam International Airport, linking Enugu with Abuja and Lagos. The airline initially deployed three Embraer jets (E170/E190) to serve its early routes, and the newly acquired Embraer 195 adds greater capacity and operational flexibility.

Although Enugu Air is still in the process of securing its Air Operator Certificate (AOC), the airline has maintained regular flight operations through its partnership with XEJET. The operator, a wholly Nigerian-owned airline, has been highlighted for its strong track record in safe and sustainable aviation operations.

At the official launch of Enugu Air last year, Governor Peter Mbah described the move as a major milestone for the state. “Today, we have our own airline,” he said. “With it, we’re opening doors to a sector that once felt out of reach. Enugu Air has given more wings to our dreams, and today, we take that first flight together.”

He further described the development as “a giant leap for Enugu State” and praised the partnership model that brought the airline to life. “Our chosen operator, XE Jet Airlines, is a 100 percent Nigerian-owned entity with a solid record of reliable, sustainable and successful aviation operations,” he added.

The new Embraer 195 is expected to support Enugu Air’s expansion plans, improving service capacity and strengthening the airline’s position in Nigeria’s growing domestic aviation market.
